Respawn Entertainment’s Upcoming Virtual Reality Game Is A “AAA VR Shooter”

New job listings reveal some details on the upcoming project.

Back in October of last year, developer Respawn Entertainment revealed that they are working on a virtual reality (VR) project in partnership with Oculus. Known for their work on popular franchises like Titanfall and Call of Duty the company is looking to build a new, immersive experience that will put players in the heart of a first-person shooter (FPS) unlike seen anything before. Now, thanks to a job listing on the companies website some new details of the project have come to light.

As reported by Road To VR, the job listing on Respawn Entertainment’s website refer to the title as an “Unannounced VR game” and is characterised as a “AAA VR shooter game” and a “combat VR game.” A number of the listings note that they are seeking candidates whose “prior experience on an FPS title is ideal,” with another listing looking for a person who is “experienced with first person weapons and full body animations.” The job listings span disciplines such as art, game design, software development, and quality assurance.

From the original announcement trailer – combined with the new details from the job listings – it seems fair to say that Respawn Entertainment are hard at work on creating a realistic FPS title that will give players an adrenaline rush. The developers note that in the Titanfall videogames that their goal was to evolve the combat into something new. With this VR title though, they want to offer players a truly authentic experience

Back in November of last year Respawn Entertainment were acquired by Electronic Arts (EA) just a month after the announcement of the project with Oculus. It is unclear how much influence EA will have on the project but their acquisition of the developer does means that they have finical support for the near future. Of course, it would also be fair to say that the title will be an Oculus exclusive given the partnership.

Though Respawn Entertainment have not officially announced or revealed the title for the project we do know that it is planned to be released sometime in 2019. The originally announcement trailer is available to watch below and for all the latest on the title in the future, keep reading VRFocus.
