AR Videogame System For Children Shoots Past Kickstarter Goal

Crowdfunding campaign for Plugo exceeds its goal with eleven days still to go.

Last month, it was announced that the company behind the educational augmented reality (AR) globe Orboot were launching a new Kickstarter campaign for its new product, an immersive videogame system aimed at children called Plugo. Only a few days since launch, and the Kickstarter goal has already been met and exceeded.

The company behind both products, PlayShifu, were looking for $25,000 (USD) in funding from the crowdfunding campaign. With 11 days still left to go, the Kickstarter for Plugo has already raised $39,094.

The company hasn’t yet addressed any plans for any stretch goals, and are instead thanking the backers for their support and releasing details on additional educational apps that will be compatible with Plugo, such as Code: Scarlet, a title where players must help a Mars rover escape a dust storm, find other Mars rovers dotted across the planet and, eventually, return to Earth.

Also mentioned was Plugo Link, an AR title which is designed to stimulate logic and critical thinking, in the form of laying down pipelines and making sure the right ingredients get to the potion cauldron in the right order, or risk a messy explosion.

There is still time to contribute to the campaign. Funding tiers range from $35 for one Early Bird Plugo kit, which includes one Plugo game pad, a Plugo kit of your choice and the Plugo app with four digital videogames.

Higher tiers include $99 for four Plugo kits and all 16 titles available in the Plugo app, or the Classroom pack at $189 which contains eight Plugo kits and is said to be ideal for classrooms or small groups. The top tier is $999 and will get the backer 60 Plugo kits, which can be used at a club, library or academy.

Further information can be found on the Kickstarter page. Future coverage of Plugo or other VR and AR-related Kickstarter campaigns will be here on VRFocus.
