Have an Early Holiday as Owlchemy Labs Confirm a Release Date for Vacation Simulator

PC VR headsets will see an earlier launch than PlayStation VR.

Owlchemy Labs has to one of the most successful virtual reality (VR) studios thanks to titles Job Simulator and Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-alityHaving announced follow up title Vacation Simulator back in 2017, the studio has now confirmed a release date for the PC VR version and a launch window for the PlayStation VR version.

Vacation Simulator

Vacation Simulator will arrive on Steam for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality headsets on 9th April 2019, as well as Oculus Store for $29.99 USD. The PlayStation VR version will be coming this summer.

Owlchemy Labs isn’t just revealing the launch date today, with all the destinations now confirmed. Up until this point the only location the studio has admitted to – and shown details of – was the Beach. In fact, there are three additional destinations for players to explore: Forest, Mountain, and Resort. All the destinations are designed to offer players typical vacation activities with a not-so-typical twist thanks to robot misinterpretations of human pastimes.

The story goes that: “In the year 2060— after record enrollment in the wildly successful Job Simulator – robots decided to uncover what else humans did besides ‘job’. After years of balancing buoyancy levels, cataloguing campfire chronicles, and securing ski slope safety protocols, their research led to the creation of a rough approximation of ‘not jobbing’: the Vacation Simulator.”

Vacation Simulator

“Vacation Simulator is bigger than anything we’ve done before, and we’re excited to see how everyone experiences ‘vacation’ in their own way,” says Devin Reimer, Chief Executive Owl at Owlchemy Labs in a statement. “The sheer interactivity and connected world we’ve built with Vacation Simulator makes for truly mind-boggling possibilities. It’s VR— there is no wrong way to play.”

With that same humour Owlchemy Labs is known for, Vacation Simulator will feature all sorts of activities, whether that’s customising your character for the ultimate selfie, making s’mores, having snowball fights, creating ice sculptures, or maybe even just basking in the summer sun.

“We believe everyone should be able to enjoy VR and feel like themselves,” Reimer adds. “At Owlchemy we strive to make VR for everyone, and I believe we’re taking huge steps towards achieving that with Vacation Simulator.”
