Competitive Shooter Vail VR Currently Holding Closed Alpha Which You Can Join

It’s could very well be the CS:GO of VR when it launches.

There are no shortage of multiplayer shooters for virtual reality (VR) headsets, each having their own particular quirks to entice players. Indie team AEXLAB is currently working on a hyper-realistic shooter called Vail VR for PC VR headsets and it’s looking for participants for a closed alpha.

Vail VR

Vail VR is a 5v5 competitive first-person shooter, designed to be realistic when it comes to gameplay mechanics but with a brutalist sci-fi feel. While there is an overarching narrative as to why these two visually opposite teams (Colonists and REYAB) are fighting it out, the title is split between two head-to-head modes: Team Deathmatch and Artifact. The former is exactly what you’d expect, with the winning team begin the one with the most kills. Artifact, on the other hand, is Vail VR’s core mode, providing “a full-scale ELO ranking system, automated tournaments, and ladder structure,” the studio notes.

With its striking, minimalist architecture Vail VR features an in-game voice chat system for real-time communication and full-body animation which approximate’s a player’s real body shape and size to ensure the gameplay maintains its realism and accuracy during gunfights.

“We believe VAIL set the foundation for the next generation of first-person shooting games. It’s in virtual reality, multiplayer, incredibly fine-tuned, and realistic,” said Jonathan Ovadia, CEO of AEXLAB in a statement. “While we’ve seen realistic VR shooters in the past, none bring them to a tactical, multiplayer experience with this level of combat. We believe VAIL moves the needle forward.”

There’s no guarantee you’ll get selected but it’s worth a shot to take a peek at this upcoming shooter. PC VR is the main focus at the moment but Oculus Quest support is planned.

To help support the project AEXLAB has been raising funds through StartEngine, an equity crowdfunding platform that allows you to invest and own shares in startups. This funding raise was launched a month ago surpassing $800,000 in that time.

As the alpha is still ongoing there’s no release date for Vail VR just yet, with AEXLAB taking its time to create a smooth, polished experience for all players. As further updates are released, keep reading VRFocus.
